The unrelenting spring storms have cause some of the greatest flooding seen since 1937 in the Mississippi Delta region – spanning from northeast Missouri all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico.Damage of this magnitude to states and communities and the impacts to the citizens of the Lower Mississippi Valley has not been seen in decades. Likewise, as a result of these floods, the Mississippi River & Tributaries (MR&T) project has been significantly compromised.
Save the Delta is a grassroots coalition of affected communities, farmers, residents and businesses that believes our United States Congress should act quickly to provide necessary emergency funding to the Corps of Engineers and other federal and state agencies so that those devastated by this year’s flood can return to their homes and businesses and begin rebuilding their lives and livelihood.
We believe that the MR&T is essential to allow people to live and work throughout this 35,000 square mile area that spans seven states and includes some of the most fertile and productive farmland in the world. It is a smart investment and one that should be upheld. Beyond flood protection, the MR&T provides benefits crucial to the region, including stable drinking water supplies, power generation, navigation and commerce, economic development and recreation.
We hope you will join our cause and make your voice heard to Congress.
