Damage to transportation

Shipping and transportation were greatly effected

Shipping and transportation across the Delta were greatly affected during this year’s floods. Roads were washed out, prohibiting interstate commerce on America’s highways. Shipping of crops and other goods up and down the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers was limited or even stopped completely in some states.

In states throughout the Delta region, county and state roads were damaged and some remained closed.  Flooding completely shut down segments of I-40 in Northeast Arkansas and I-55 in Southeast Missouri was limited to one lane in each direction, as shown here in the video.
