A large number of deer and other ground-dwelling mammals drowned or starved from lack of food sources during the flood. In Missouri and Louisiana, for example, animals were forced to seek higher ground because of the floodways being activated. Unfortunately, many did not survive.

Farm animals had no where to go. The ones that could fly took refuge on roof tops.
